There are around 20 madventurers in Kenya helping out at Karunga Primary School helping to lay the foundations to a new classroom block - Anthony, Liam and Ziggy are all hoping to get there in time for the finishing phases of this part of the project which will see volunteers helping out with building, teaching, coaching footy and getting involved with the village at all levels.
As time is short this time round for the BB boys they will be doing as much of a recce as they can in their time in early August, but the fundraising has already started - check out www.justgiving.com/anthonygoesmad and www.justgiving.com/liamgoesmad
We have hired out a big 'mad house' near the school where everyone is staying, not a massive miles away from the Big Brother house (but a lot more basic).
3 weeks to go!
Liam McGough has just signed up to help out in Kenya this August, and Zach 'Ziggy' Lichman also from BB8 is just checking out what dates he can get away from his new DJ job in Marbella. More later.
In the meantime check out www.justgiving.com/liamgoesmad !!!!
Hi All, we are talking to schools around the Gilgil area. The Mad Foundation already has links with many of the schools such as Karunga Primary School and Ngetteti Primary. As well as donating footballs and sports equipment we will be helping build and renovate classrooms, water tanks and other development projects at these schools - more to follow!
The confirmed 6 week period of the Tournament is from 4th July to 14th August 2009. Anthony and his football buddies will be coming out for the last 2 weeks to help on building projects, coaching football and taking part in the organisation of the final.
If you want to show your support for Anthony and help him raise funds for these Schools then you can donate via the JustGiving link.
One idea coming through from supporters is to twin UK footy teams with schools' footy team in Kenya - why not ask members of your 11 a-side team to chip in £10 each which can easily raise over £100 for equipment overseas - we are also looking at doing a league of UK team names and partnering them up on a tournament board so you can see how well your sponsored school in Kenya is getting on!
So stick your hands in your pockets and visit www.justgiving.com/anthonygoesmad - and leave a message with your team name in it so we can add you to the tournament board.
Speak soon, chief ;-)
The Mad World Cup has been born. Anthony Hutton, BB 6 winner, is going to work with Mad to help organise a football tournament in Kenya for local schools. This isn't an ordinary tournament, we are using sport to build bridges between tribes after the recent troubles in Kenya and help raise donations for local schools. This will provide much needed sustainable support to help childrens education.
The Mad Foundation will be providing the support to help get the tournament off the ground and will be working with the communities in the build up through their sports coaching and education programs in Kenya.
The story doesn't begin with the tournament, the story starts now and this blog will be the storybook. We will be bringing you stories, updates, pictures and footage from Kenya and the UK. You will be able to meet the kids who will take part, see them preparing and being coached for the tournament and of course follow Anthony's progress as he helps raise £10,000. If you love football and get withdrawl symptons when the season ends, you will be able to watch the tournament in Kenya on this blog. It's going to be a fun internet reality story from the UK and Kenya.
You can get involved by following this blog, joining the facebook group, following Anthony on Twitter and sharing this site www.madworldcup.com with friends. If you have an interest in sport or just want to help we would love sports equipment to be donated for the local schools. If you want to help towards Anthony's target, you can donate or fundraise for the Mad Foundation charity using Just Giving, Anthony goes Mad.
Ave it, John Lawler, Mad Chief (aka Torgbui Mottey 1)
The MAD chief, John Lawler, met Anthony Hutton, BB 6 winner earlier in the week. He loved the Mad story and seemed really excited about going out on a mini GAP year, who wouldn't be?
Guess who walked into the office this morning, yes the man himself, our first Mad celebrity.
It was a real Sir Alex Ferguson / Dimitar Berbatov moment, Anthony couldn't wait to put pen to paper and sign up
